About 900 teachers, librarians, and counsellors weren't in class at Fanshawe College today. They were on the picket line handing out union pamphlets instead of grades.
OPSEU Local President Paddy Musson says the dispute isn't about wages as much as class-size. Simply put, the union wants the college to hire more full-time teachers.
Fanshawe's President Howard Rundle responds that it would just be too expensive.
Musson says she expects the province will eventually legislate the strikers back to work after about three weeks.
Rundle says he thinks that's exactly what the union wants.
Both sides are telling the students now left out in the cold to keep up with their school work . The main concern of students it that they'll lose their semester.
The last strike involving Fanshawe College was in 1989. It lasted 24 days. Fanshawe made up the time by eliminating breaks and exam times.
This time a committee is working on a plan to help students complete their year once the strike is over.
