A recent study in Australia has revealed that more than a third of all adults consider themselves lonely.
The loneliest are people in their forties.
Those fifty and older had the lowest levels of self-reported loneliness.
People with strong religious beliefs are less likely to be lonely.
Women reported lower levels than men.
Feelings of loneliness can increase health conditions like heart disease and depression. It can also result in more incidences of domestic violence.
