According to Statistics Canada more Canadians are working non-traditional hours than ever before, and paying a price for it.
The government agency studied the workplace between 1997 and 2001 and found that only a third of workers have regular hours.
It also discovered that workers with irregular hours were more likely to report higher stress levels and poorer health.
Western professor Chris Higgins, who has studied the evolving Canadian workplace, says the demise of 9-to-5 jobs is the result of more companies trying to do more work with fewer workers in a global economy.
