Cancer Prevention Week

Cancer Prevention Week in Canada began April 18th this year, and with it has come some surprising statistics.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society 9 out of 10 Ontarians believe that screening tests can prevent cancer.  However, less than half of them actually talk to their doctors about such testing.

Only half of Ontarians exercise at least 30 minutes a day 4 or 5 times a week.

19 percent of Ontarians still smoke tobacco.

69 percent thinks the government should discourage smoking through regulation and taxes.

62 percent think the province should increase spending on cancer prevention, even if it means redirecting money from other areas of health care.
