A recent study found that providing a baby with a pacifier at sleep time actually reduced " Sudden Infant Death Syndrome" by 61 percent
The study has led the American Academy of Pediatrics to recommend the use of pacifiers as a way to prevent SIDS.
Experts aren't sure why it works, mainly because they don't even know yet what causes seemingly healthy babies to die suddenly in their cribs.
Other ways to prevent SIDS include putting babies on their backs, using a firm mattress, and ensuring a smoke-free environment.
