The American Medical Association is calling on the U-S government to required warning labels on food that contain high amounts of salt.
It wants the food industry to reduce the amount of salt in processed and restaurant food.
The Association says most of us consume twice the amount of salt as we should, and that contributes to higher rates of hypertension and heart problems.
Hot dogs, pepperoni pizza, and canned soups, for example, contain too much sodium chloride.
Others say, however, that salt shouldn't be singled out because there are other additives and ingredients in food that are cause for serious health concerns.
