London Police Chief Murray Faulkner makes his pitch to City Council on Thursday.
He wants to buy a stockpile of 60 police cruisers in addition to the 32 he has in his budget already. The extra 60 would go into storage to be used in the future.
The Ford Crown Victoria's are specially built for police service, can be retro-fitted for propane, and fit existing police equipment. The chief says the propane conversion alone saves $500,000 each year.
The Crown Vics are made at the St. Thomas assembly plant, and they will go out of production when the plant closes next year.
Faulkner admits police will eventually have to switch to a different vehicle... he just wants to postpone that date.
