Q: Is your local programming closed captioned?
A: Yes, all of our local programming is closed captioned for the hearing impaired.
Q: Why are your contests not open to residents of Quebec?
A: Throughout CTVglobemedia, we run many contests each year. Some run nationally across the network, others are available in every market but Quebec and others are only run in select markets. Some contests are only available in the Quebec market. For example, our CTV affiliate in Montreal, runs approximately 40 contests per year. The same is generally true of our web-based contests. The decision about where to run a contest is affected by many factors, including the desires of our co-sponsors, the budget and lead times for launching the promotion.
We always hope to include Quebec residents in our national contests, but because of the above factors, we sometimes are unable to do so. Sometimes, contest availability is affected by Quebec law that dictates contests run in the province must be registered with the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux. Following the procedural steps imposed by the Régie requires a longer lead time, which we do not always have, and which our co-sponsors may be unwilling to extend. This may affect the decision about whether to make a contest available in the Quebec market, despite our efforts to make our national contests as inclusive as possible.
Q: I'm having trouble with my membership, (login, contests, newsletters, etc). Do you have a special guide for members? A: Yes we do! For answers to all your membership-related questions, please see our
Troubleshooting Guide.
Q: What is the history of the Market Media Mall?
A: Built as a shopping mall in 1982, the Market Mall was purchased in 1998. The redesign of the 46,000 square foot building began one year later by Quadrangle Architects. In 2000, the Market Media Mall - home of Ottawa and four radio stations - opened its doors. The open mall concept features a glass vaulted ceiling and windows that allow pedestrians to watch live TV newscasts from the street. The design incorporated the original escalators and a grill-style restaurant. The 139 foot broadcast tower was designed by Ottawa architect Barry Padolsky. The tower is crowned by sculptor Bruce Garner's copper weathervane representing a Canada Goose and a figure representing a goddess.
