He spent 12 days in space, but tonight, Ottawa-born astronaut Steve MacLean is back on earth; now it's on to other projects for MacLean.
His newest venture back on terra firma, involves a number of young students, who have developed a huge amount of interest in outer space thanks to MacLean’s trip aboard Shuttle Atlantis.
To keep that momentum going the astronaut is lending his support to launch Your Future With Reading contest. It's a joint venture between the Canadian Library Association and the Canadian Space Agency.
There are two ways the students can take part. They can either write a story in which a magical book transports them on board the space shuttle with Steve MacLean or they can send a question to the astronaut and he will answer the top five questions.
The contest is open to students across the country between the ages of 9-14. Winners will receive among other things an official Steve MacLean mission kit. It includes an autographed photo of the astronaut, a mission badge, and pin. As well as, a space hat and t-shirt.
Students have until October 15th to enter the contest.
