Royal Swans set free into the Rideau River.

For over a year they've been cooped up in what critics called "Swantanamo Bay", but today Ottawa's famous royal swans were finally set free.
The swans have been released into the Rideau River every spring since 1967. And when the water freezes, they spend their winters in an Ottawa Nursery.
However, the swans were held for almost two years for fear of catching Bird Flu.
Now that the threat of bird flu in North America is minimal, officials stand behind their decision to release the swans and finally allow them to get their feet wet.
