As one employee put it, "The rumours started yesterday and the hammer dropped today."
Dell announced on Wednesday that it is terminating more than 1,000 jobs at its Ottawa call centre.
The centre has only been open since 2006, but by summer it will be closed, leaving another 500 employees without a job by June or July.
A spokesperson from Dell would only say that the decision is about being cost-competitive in a global market. The company says it won't out-source any of the jobs, it's eliminating them to save money.
Many Dell employees did not want to talk on camera because they signed a paper saying they couldn't; others said they didn't want to talk about the job cuts because they were happy with their severance package.
