Maple Leaf Weiner Recall
(February 24, 2009) Maple Leaf Foods says it is voluntarily recalling more than 1,000 cases of wieners over safety concerns.
The recall applies to certain Shopsy's Deli Fresh All Beef Frankfurters and Maple Leaf Hot Dogs. Maple Leaf says both products are sold in 450-gram packages and were distributed to customers in Eastern Canada.
The company says all its customers have been notified and the products are being removed from inventory or store shelves and returned to Maple Leaf. It says there has been no illness reported as a result of someone eating the wieners and adds the threat to human health is very small.
The recalled hot dogs may have been in the marketplace for about a week and it's expected all the remaining products will be back in the company's control by Wednesday.
Shopsy's Deli Fresh All Beef Frankfurters carrying the product code 20730 and UPC 6487520730, with a best before date of April 22 and 23, are affected by the recall. The recalled Maple Leaf Hot Dogs Original products have product code 22356 with UPC 6310022356 and a best before date of April 23.

Baby Crib Recall
(February 20, 2009) Health Canada is asking parents to stop using a particular crib that was manufactured in Chile and imported to Canada by Bambino Reale Furniture, a company that's gone out of business.
There is a potential for a serious fall-related injury, although to date Health Canada says it hasn't received any reports of injuries related to these cribs. The model number is 612C19CH. Because the company, a subsidiary of Quebec-based Ragazzi Furniture, has gone out of business, Health Canada hasn't been able to determine how many of the cribs were sold in Canada, or when they were sold.
The warning was issued following a complaint by a consumer in Alberta and a determination that the cribs don't meet labelling and minimum side height requirements for cribs. Health Canada says the cribs don't provide an adequate barrier to prevent infants and young children from falling out or climbing out.
The cribs should be disassembled and disposed of in a way that they won't be used again.

Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.
The manufacturer Kanata Smoke House, Laval, Quebec is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
For more information, consumers and industry can call one of the following numbers: Kanata Smoke House at 450-628-2520

Toothbrush Recall
(February 16, 2009) Health Canada is warning consumers and retailers about buying toothbrushes after a number of counterfeit products were found on Canadian shelves.
The toothbrushes are falsely labelled as Colgate Massager, Colgate Navigator, Oral B Classic 40, Oral B Contura and Colgate 360. Retailers with stock from Canadian importer AG Liquidation should check their products for authenticity and remove any they suspect to be bogus, the agency said.
Last July, a public advisory was issued about a sham Oral B Classic 40 toothbrush being sold. Health Canada received a report of toothbrush bristles dislodging and catching in a consumer's throat.
Genuine Colgate toothbrushes can be identified by the packaging, labelled in English and French only, that states "Distr. by/par: Colgate-Palmolive Canada Inc," and by a lot code moulded into the brush handle just under the brush head. Oral B toothbrushes, made by Proctor and Gamble Inc., can be identified by the Oral B logo manufactured as part of the handle mould. Fake Oral B brushes have been known to have the logo printed in silver text on a peel-away label.
AG Liquidation has voluntarily recalled all manual toothbrushes that have been labelled as Oral B Classic 40, Oral B Contura, Colgate 360, Colgate Navigator and Colgate Massager that are being sold throughout Canada. Health Canada is also taking action to prevent these dicey dental-hygiene products from entering the Canadian market.
Any problem involving the toothbrushes can be reported to the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate toll-free hotline, 1-800-267-9675. Consumers requiring more information can contact Health Canada's public inquiries line at (613) 957-2991 or toll-free at 1-866-225-0709.
