A homeless Ottawa man has gone from being a fixture on the streets to being a fixture on the shelves of local bookstores.

He's called the streets of Ottawa home since 2006, and now the city will have a piece of Dave Dessler that will live on forever.
Most wouldn't know Dessler by name or even by face, because he's often overlooked as he sits at the corner of Sussex Drive and George Street. But Dessler used his invisibility to his advantage, writing a string of poems from the homeless point of view.
Those poems turned into a book, Mindlessly Adrift: My Ottawa Streets, a co-effort with photographer Jean Boulay. Dessler says his book would not have been possible without the efforts of a local businessman who he got to know during his daily trips to the bank.
Mindlessly Adrift officially launched Thursday, and can be bought directly from Dessler at the corner of Sussex Drive and George Street, or from Piccolo Grande on Murray Street for 40 dollars.
Stay tuned for the latest.
