Ontario Provincial Police are searching for answers after the mysterious discovery of a woman's body on a highway on-ramp near Cornwall. The body was found Wednesday night on an on-ramp to Highway 401 at Power Dam Drive in South Stormont Township.

Police did not find any vehicles in the area. A 28-year-old woman from Montreal was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem has been ordered.

Police say that it doesn't appear that the woman was thrown from a vehicle. They have yet to determine how she died, but say a hit-and-run scenario is likely. But they can't explain what the woman was doing walking along the stretch of highway.

The victim's name will not be released until her next of kin is notified. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police.

Stay tuned for the latest.
