A Gatineau mother is preparing to do the unthinkable: plan a funeral for her 27-year-old daughter, who was killed in Mexico.
Christina Polifroni died on Monday, when her boyfriend lost control of the dune buggy the two were riding in. The two were driving on a narrow pass up a mountain, and the buggy fell into a ravine. Her boyfriend, Richard Deziel is still in a Mexican hospital.
Polifroni's stepfather, John MacDonnell, is putting the blame on the tour company, saying they were too relaxed when it came to safety. He says there were no seatbelts and no helmets, and calls the incident, "an accident waiting to happen."
Polifroni was a bartender at Minglewoods, and is remembered as a vibrant girl with an unforgettable smile. Messages and tributes have poured in to Polifoni's Facebook page.
Her funeral will be held at St. Martins Church on Prince Charles Avenue in Ottawa on Monday afternoon. A visitation will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home, also in Ottawa.
Stay tuned for the latest.
