A suspended professor and a suspended student were both arrested on campus at the University of Ottawa on Friday night, sparking an impromptu protest at police headquarters on Elgin Street.
Physics student Mark Kelly and Professor Denis Rancourt were removed from school grounds while Kelly was making a presentation on student activism. Kelly was under restrictions on when he is allowed on campus after an incident a couple of months ago at a university senate meeting.
Rancourt says Kelly tried to film the university senate during a meeting. Rancourt himself was suspended for a different dispute with university administration.
Rancourt says he was issued a trespassing ticket for the incident on Friday night, something he plans to fight. He says Kelly was released with an apology from police.
The University of Ottawa has yet to comment on the situation.
Stay tuned for the latest.
