Videographer
Born in Whitby, Ont. Doug moved with his family to the Ottawa Valley in 1976 so his father could become director of the public school board. He began his career in journalism as a photographer & darkroom technician with the Pembroke Daily Observer and later moved to the weekly community paper - Barry's Bay This Week - to be a staff writer. Another move to Peterborough & Lindsay had him working several beats as a photographer, columnist & staff reporter with the Peterborough This Week newspaper. A few years later Doug found himself back in the Ottawa Valley and working for Barry's Bay This Week once more - where he became a national award-winning editor/writer/columnist/photographer & designer. After the birth of their first child, Doug, and his wife Oona Woods, decided it was time for a change. Following a six-month paternity leave Doug took on new challenges as an ENG cameraman and eventutally a videographer with 'A' News Ottawa.

Extracurricular:
Doug has two young daughters Lucy Sky & Ruby Tuesday. He spends most of his spare time keeping them busy and occasionally sneaking off to his basement recording studio. An avid bass player & drummer, Doug is also a published author and once thought of himself as not a bad actor. As part of this station's commitment to community involvement, Doug has served as emcee or guest speaker at various events. By the same token he's also found himself in charity dunk tanks; served as a smash-up derby driver, chili judge, tour guide and quizmaster.
What I love About My Job:
"I used to leave my old job in the middle of the afternoon because I couldn't stand the torture of sitting at a desk and basking in the fluorescent lights. Being a videographer demands that I spend most of my shifts out & about, talking to people about something that's changed their lives in one way or another. It's never the same and is completely satisfying. The longest I spend typing at the keyboard these days is occasionally writing a new bio for the website."
