Karen Soloman

Host, 'A' Morning

Karen wakes up early in the morning to help you get your day off with the information you need to know on 'A' Morning.  Karen is a Saskatchewan export - born in the "Queen City" of Regina and raised in Moosomin (you may have filled up with gas there on your Trans Canada Highway travels across our great country).   After high school she moved to Winnipeg for post-secondary education, attending the University of Manitoba and Red River College. In 1996 Karen landed her first gig in Winnipeg as a researcher/writer at what is now known as Global Television. She went on to anchor the six o’clock news in Brandon at CKX-TV, but was there for only a brief time before the Manitoba Television Network in Winnipeg came calling.  For 2 years she produced, anchored, and hosted Manitoba @ Midday.  In 1999 and Karen was a senior reporter covering everything from civic to provincial matters, crime, and human interest stories.  Karen also anchored the weekend news.  The early mornings began in 2000 when she anchored The Big Breakfast at 'A' News in Winnipeg.  Karen has called Ottawa home since 2001.

Education:

Bachelor of Arts, University of Manitoba
Communications Honours Diploma, Red River College

Extracurricular:

Karen is on the United Way Campaign Cabinet as Co-Chair for Volunteer Recognition.  She is also on the board of iSisters Technology Mentoring Inc., an organization dedicated to teaching technology to women in need.

During her downtime she loves to read – from newspapers to magazines to fiction - if it's on the coffee table she'll read it.  Inline skating is also a passion and there's no better city to live in with all of the paved trails.  And then there are movies, brunch and coffee with friends and family, and most importantly spending time with her husband Curtis who is also from Saskatchewan.

What I Love About My Job:

"I get to meet a lot of interesting people with all sorts of passions, and throughout my career I've witnessed some incredible stories of success, hope, devastation, and miracles.  My job is fun and filled with the element of surprise that only live television can bring.  There’s also an incredible feeling of satisfaction when we help people and get our viewers involved in supporting charities in our community."
