VICTORIA - Victoria's Johnson Street bridge lost power Tuesday afternoon just as the road portion was being raised.
City crews managed to lower it using a back-up generator.
The bridge was closed to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians for about 30 minutes.
Power was eventually restored although the electrical malfunction threw the bridge's signals and gates out of sync.
The City is working with B.C. Hydro to determine what caused the power failure.
In January Victoria City Council decided to spend more than $800,000 to determine whether to replace or refurbish the 85 year-old bridge.
