VICTORIA - People living near a Victoria home that's been the subject of a police raid and more than 190 calls in the past seven years are hopeful tonight that the province can put an end to problems in the neighbourhood.
They received a letter this week telling them the Ministry of the Solicitor General is working to seize the house at 2547 Prior Street and sell it.
Detective Rick Anthony from the Victoria Police Department says in the last seven years it's been an increasing problem property for the force.
"I think at last count it's somewhere in the vicinity of 190 calls for service", says Anthony "All fairly significant. Not just nuisance calls; drugs, weapons, overdoses. Things like that"
In February police entered the house with guns drawn and arrested convicted drug dealer Brian Morrison. Since then police say it's been relatively quiet.
"I'm not sure what changed around that time" Anthony ponders, "But apparently whatever we were doing, we were doing right or there's some kind of action that took place that has almost eliminated calls for service there."
It is around that time the province stepped up action to seize the property and sell it.
Court records show the Director of Civil Forfeiture alleges the homeowner’s income was derived from unlawful activity. It’s money that the provinces alleges Robert Earl Marson used to buy the property.
The Director also alleges from November 2002 the home as been used as a drug house, a storefront for drug trafficking, prostitution, a staging area for theft, and a safe haven for thieves.
This week the Director sent neighbours a letter asking them to provide information about unlawful activities at the house.
Robert Marson's lawyer declined to comment as the case is before the courts, but in a statement of defence Marson denies the allegations.
Meantime a court order is in place preventing the homeowner from allowing any criminal activity to take place on the property.
