Carole James Diagnosed With Cancer
During a routine medical exam, NDP leader Carole James was diagnosed with uterine cancer.
She will undergo surgery at the end of the month.
A medical specialist says patients suffering from this common form of uterine cancer usually have a positive outcome.
The B-C Cancer Agency specialist says the treatment normally involves a hysterectomy and radiation is usually only prescribed in advanced stages.
James says she expects to be back on the job as leader of BC's official opposition as early as September.
Premier Gordon Campbell says he wants Carole James to know "she has the full support" of every MLA in the province.
He says the thoughts and prayers of all British Columbians go out to the 48-year-old politician as she battles cancer.
