Handing out the Cash on the Mid-Island
NANAIMO - It was a little like Christmas in April for four communities on Vancouver Island today.

The Premier took a road trip handing out money on the mid-island for everything from cruise ship terminals to infrastructure upgrades.

Nanaimo was the first stop of the Premier's Friday road trip, with an announcement of funding that will make the harbour city more attractive for cruise ships.

The $5 million will help convert Nanaimo’s assembly wharf into a cruise ship facility  - that will potentially attract up to 50 cruise ship visits a year.

The next stop for the Premier - the Oceanside community of Qualicum Beach, where $162,000 was dished out to build a BC spirit square - a revitalization of an existing public space.

Over the hump and into Port Alberni where another Spirit Square was announced - $440,000 to expand and upgrade the city's Harbour Quay.

The next and final stop of today's cash tour was the Comox Valley where the Premier and Federal MP James Lunny jointly announced $2.6 million towards twinning the East Courtenay reservoir, doubling the region's available water supply.
