Sockeye Salmon Almost Listed as Endangered Species
SOOKE - There is a good chance that the entire sockeye salmon run in British Columbia will be shut down this summer. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is predicting very low returns on the Fraser and Skeena River systems. But that also affects anglers who fish for sockeye returning to the rivers.

In Sooke, the Spring or Chinook salmon are beginning to bite again. But any hope of catching some sockeye salmon in late July and early August when they swim through that area is dim at best.

2 Reel charters hopes there will be enough pink and chinook salmon to make anglers happy this summer.

The Sooke economy benefits strongly from the fishing industry, and everyone is awaiting limits set for this season by D.F.O.
