Roll Up The Rim Cup A Fake

PARKSVILLE - Above the counter inside the Tim Hortons in Parksville there is a sign proclaiming a customer at this location is the winner of a 2009 Toyota Venza in the donut chain's popular "Roll up the Rim to win" contest. That customer is 18 year old Matthew de Jong. He says last month he bought the winning cup and showed it to the staff at the Parksville Tim Hortons. "Everyone was excited for me," de Jong says, adding the staff told him it was a winner.

18 year-old de Jong doesn't meet Tim Hortons age requirement so he gave the claim form along with this cup to his uncle Walter to send away.

Just this past week Tim Hortons told them they wouldn't be getting a new car after all. Spokesperson David Morelli says the cup is "counterfeit" because it didn't have the secret security features every major prize winning cup has.

De Jong says there is no way he tampered with the cup, and wants to know how it wound up in his local Tim Hortons. He's demanding Tim Hortons prove to him the cup is a fake. Both parties say they are considering legal action.
