Despite the rain, hundreds gather for royal couple (VIDEO)

VICTORIA - 10 year old Megan Reist-Millward sat patiently as a stylist straightened her hair. It was part of the preparation for a special day. Megan wanted to look her best when presenting flowers to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall on the lawns of the legislature.  Excited and nervous, Megan has been practicing her curtesy every day for three weeks.

Megan will greet the royal couple at the legislature in her girl guide uniform. It was just a few weeks ago that Scouts Canada phoned her mom to offer Megan the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Protocol dictates Megan may only speak to the Duchess, if the Duchess begins the conversation. "I guess I'll say hello," says Megan, if she's spoken to.

Royal followers wanting to share in some of the Megan's excitement lined up early at the legislature, despite the pouring rain. But the weather cleared up just enough for Megan to hand the bouquet of peach roses to Camilla.

Megan says both the Duchess and Prince of Wales spoke to her, asking about girl guide camp. "I was really excited. It was really fun," says Megan. The moment was so exciting that Megan forgot to do one thing -- curtesy.
